UAE Golden Visa: Requirements & Investment Pathways

Eligible applicants for a UAE Golden Visa, including investors, entrepreneurs, scientists, qualified professionals, and individuals with exceptional talents, can secure their long-term residence visa. The issuance of Golden Visas, which began in 2019, initially mandated investments ranging from AED 5 million to 10 million for investors. However, in 2022, the government introduced new and more flexible conditions for obtaining a Golden Visa through investment. The updated rules feature a reduced investment amount and no restrictions on the duration of stay in other countries. To be eligible for this visa under Article 17 of the Annexure to Cabinet Resolution No. 65 of 2022, applicants must meet the following conditions:

  1. Hold a valid work contract in the country, entitling them to obtain a work permit.
  2. Be classified as a skilled worker at the first or second professional level, as per the MoHRE-approved occupational classification.
  3. Possess at least a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent educational qualification.
  4. Earn a minimum monthly salary of Dh30,000 or its equivalent in foreign currencies.
  5. Hold a valid license to practice in professions such as medicine, pharmacy, teaching, or other professions eligible for the Golden Visa.
  6. Maintain comprehensive health insurance coverage for themselves and their family members during the application process, as required by the competent local authority.

Foreign entrepreneurs have the option to establish companies in the designated Free Zones or in other areas within the UAE. To set up a business, a license is required, which is a standard procedure in the UAE.

Founders of these companies are eligible to obtain residence visas that are valid for three years. For those looking to extend their visa duration, they can do so by either investing a minimum of $136,000 in their business or obtaining approval from a recognized business incubator. This extension allows them to extend the visa validity to 5-10 years, providing more stability and flexibility in managing their ventures.

Unlike many other residency programs, Golden Visa holders are not required to obtain a local sponsor to live, study, and work in the UAE. This simplifies the application process and saves applicants from the complexities and delays associated with finding a sponsor.

One of the major highlights of the Golden Visa is that it allows visa holders to own 100% of their business in the UAE. This eliminates the previous requirement of partnering with an Emirati national, opening up new opportunities for foreign entrepreneurs and investors.

Golden Visa holders with foreign driving licenses can take the UAE driver’s license test without the need for specific lessons, and certain countries’ license holders may be eligible for a UAE driver’s license automatically.

Exceptional foreign students may receive a 10-year residency visa, and expatriate students could be offered discounts at international universities throughout Dubai.
